A little history:
It was in 2000 that for the first time appeared the object that will be a technological revolution, still used more than fifteen years later: the USB key.
Launched by the company Trek Techonology and followed closely by IBM a few months later, this storage system becomes immediately universal, since it will very quickly replace its predecessor, the floppy disk, so that it will completely disappear in terms of use in 2006; which is understandable, since the first USB key to appear is already more:
- Solid (not afraid of scratches, slight shocks)
- Fast (350Ko / s in terms of writing)
- Powerful (more than 5 times the storage capacity of the current best diskette (8MB against 1.44MB))
What is a USB drive?
A USB key is an object that allows the storage and transfer of data and information. It allows you for example to copy a photo (or video, file, movies, series, music ...) on it so you can transport it and recover it on another computer.
What are the features of a USB drive?
The main feature to consider for a USB stick is its storage capacity. It can go from 128MB to 128GB (100 times more space) with a doubled capacity between each USB key (128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB ...), it will determine the amount of data and information you can stored.
Second very important characteristic of the USB key: the transfer speed. This rate is the representation of the time it will take to copy the file from your computer to your USB key (and vice versa); for example, a USB flash drive with a write speed of 50MB per second will take 6 seconds to copy to your USB drive in the case of a 300MB file while a 600MB writing speed per second will copy your 300MB file instantly.
